Daniel's 70th Week

Daniel's 70th Week

by David Rose

The term “seventy weeks” is literally translated as “seventy sevens” in the Hebrew language. The archangel Gabriel came to Daniel while he was praying and interceiding for Israel. Gabriel explained to Daniel some things that were going to take place in the future regarding the fulfillment of the messiah and the coming of the Anti-Christ and the time of the end. Gabriel tells Daniel that the total time left before all this comes to pass is 70 weeks equaling a total of 490 years. We know this because scholars have figured out that each week equals a period of seven years. In vs.26 where it says that “after three score and two weeks (62 weeks or 434 years) will be added to vs.25 where it says “seven weeks or 49 years for a total of 483 years from the time a command would be given to restore and rebuild Jerusalam. Vs.25 Many scholars believe that the decree or command to rebuild Jerusalam was made by King Artaxerxes Longimanus around 445 B.C. in Nehemiah 2:5 This event started the count down for the coming of the Messiah. Gabriel told Daniel that after 483 years from the decree to rebuild Jerusilem the Messiah Jesus would be put to death. Vs.26 We can also see from this verse that the Anti-Christ will come from Rome or that area. The word tells us that it will be from the people that destroy the city and the sanctuary that the Anti-Christ will come. 9:26 This is referring to the Romans who destroyed the temple and Jerusalem in 70A.D. This prince is the exact same one referred to in Dan. 8:23

Now we see a gap between the 69 week (483 years) and the seventieth week (7 years). This is a split prophecy, just as we see through Jesus when he quotes Isaiah 61. Notice that Jesus does not finish the quote. He does not say “the day of vengeance”. Why? Because that day was not yet. He was coming back to fulfill the rest of that prophecy. The prophecy of Daniel has a gap in it. Jesus did not come to earth to save it and destroy it at the same time. The first time he came he came as a lamb to save the world. The second time he comes he will come as a lion to judge the world. This will be the total fulfillment of Daniels 70th week.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” Luke 4:18,19 Now compare with the verse in Isaiah.

“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;” Isaiah 61:2

So when will the seventieth week begin? That last seven years.
Jesus gave us warning when it was about to start.

Matthew 24:5 "For many will come in my name, saying, I am Christ, and will mislead many."

Matthew 24:11 "And many false prophets will arise, and will mislead many."

Matthew 24:6 "And you will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end."

Matthew 24:7 "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes."

Matthew 24:7 "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes."

Matthew 24:8-9 "But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs. Then they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations on account of my name."

II Timothy 3:1-5,7 "But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of god; holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth."

I Timothy 4:1-3 "But the spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons. By means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron, men who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth."

We have already talked about the fact that Christ will return in six thousand years. So with that, and these facts combined we know that the arrival of the Anti-Christ could be any day, and that Christ is just a moment away from that.

Who or what is the Anti-Christ? He is a deceiver, a liar and a man filled with all the fullness of devils. He will appear as one who is loving and caring, not as a monster, but a savior to all man kind. Men will love him at first. They will want to worship him. Who is he and how will we recognize him?
